Back in the FLOW!

By Alex Ainge, Trustee MWHG

The Flow volunteers met up at Hilton Business Park, East Wittering, for more shearing, lopping and vegetative clearing today. The weather was really kind to us and the wildlife too! We saw a kingfisher, a baby deer splashing in the water and a heron fishing.

We were joined by a new, local volunteer (Trish) too. We talked about all things eco-friendly and about the website, Manhope.UK ( https://manhope.uk/)which Trish is very passionate about and was formed 4 years ago as a portal to preserve and protect the western end of the peninsula from over development.

Today was a bit of a sentimental day for me, as this site was the first one I volunteered on about 3 years ago. How the site has changed into a peaceful retreat with plenty of wild flowers, hedging trees, surrounded by a Sussex weave fence and a lovely wildlife friendly pond-a far cry from the fly tipping site that it once was.

There’s a lot of green work to do here as well as some wading through water and I can’t wait to be back!

Thank you to our Volunteer Lead, Louise Barnetson, who provided some very tempting biscuits at tea break!!
